Day 1, Monday – Arrival in Ljubljana
Individual arrival to Venice or Ljubljana airport where our local representative will greet you. Transfer to you hotel in Ljubljana. Rest of the day free you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Orientation meeting and welcome drink with your guide in the evening. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Day 2, (Tue) Postojna and Piran
In the morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Ljubljana. Travel to the Karst region. Your first stop is at the Postojna Cave, one of the largest in Europe. Tour this unique subterranean world by miniature electric train. After the tour, proceed to a nearby wine producer for Teran wine and prosciutto tasting. Finally, drive to Piran on the Slovenian coast. (B, WT)
Day 3, (Wed) Piran, Portoroz and Goriska Brda
See the highlights of Piran this morning, then head to Portoroz, a popular tourist resort. Continue to the hilly region of Goriska Brda. Discover the charming town of Smartno and have a delicious dinner at a local tourist farm. Overnight in Nova Gorica. (B, D)
Day 4, (Thu) Soca Valley and Bled
Morning drive upstream the emerald green Soca river at the Julian Alps through Kobarid, the town mentioned in Hemingway’s Farewell to Arms. It was the scene of many battles between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the First World War, called the Isonzo Valley Front. We will visit the war museum, then continue on to Bled, a peaceful little town and health resort with mild climate and a beautiful glacier lake surrounded by Alpine scenery. Overnight in Bled. (B)
Day 5, (Fri) Bled
Today we visit the charming town with its lake shore, and imposing Bled Castle, built on a high cliff guarding the lake below. It is said that it is the oldest castle in Slovenia first mentioned in chronicles in 1011. Return to the town to taste some local favorite cakes. In the afternoon enjoy Alpine scenery on the tour to Skofja Loka, considered the most beautiful Medieval town in Slovenia with a majestic castle at the confluence of two Sora rivers. On our way back to Bled we stop at a local homestead for tasting typical products. Overnight in Bled. (B)
Day 6, (Sat) Bled and Bohinj
Today we tour another Alpine beauty – lake Bohinj, a large glacier lake high in the Alps surrounded by stunning scenery. We will walk along the scenic lakeshore and take the cable car to Mt Vogel for a gorgeous view of the surrounding Julian Alps. Lake Bohinj is also a famous ski resort attractive in all seasons.. We will visit the local shepherd’s museum where you can try authentic Slovenian cheese. Return to Bled. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant, overnight in Bled. (B,D)
Day 7, Sunday – Departure Ljubljana
Breakfast, then transfer to the airport in Ljubljana or Venice or airport.
