A short holiday from Zurich to one of the most charming parts of Switzerland to the the town of Lucerne with Mt Pilatus and the resort of Interlaken with the mighty Jungfraujoch at the top of Europe, the highest altitude railway station at 3454 meters carved into ice and rock. You can enjoy spectacular views from the many viewing terraces to the high Alps and on clear days over to France and Germany’s Black Forest. The Interlaken holiday region offers anything from easy walking trails to high adventure and cultural attractions. Your base, Interlaken is a charming resort from where you can take scenic boat excursions on the crystal clear Glacier waters of Lake Brienz or Lake Thun passing picturesque fishing villages and historic castles where you can disembark to experience old-world local local lifestyle.
Day 1 Zurich – Lucerne
Transfer from your hotel or airport to the train station to board the train to lovely Lucerne, one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland on the shores of an emerald lake. Our suggestion is to walk in your free time around the historical city center with the famous covered bridge and the colorful facades. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 2 Lucerne – Mount Pilatus – Lucerne
Today you will take the steepest cogwheel train of 48 degree to Mount Pilatus one of the highest peaks in the Lucerne region. The train ride will take around 30 minutes introducing a spectacular scenery below with the views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps are truly spectacular. Spend time on top of the mountain, if interested, walk down though open meadows and take the cable car back to Lucerne. The afternoon is free for own activities. Overnight in Lucerne
Day 3 Lucerne – Golden Pass Line – Interlaken
The Golden Pass Line travels in approximately two hours from Lucerne to Interlaken. Nestled between
Thun Lake and Brienz Lake, Interlaken is a pleasant city that makes the perfect starting point for
exploring the nearby mountains, including world famous peaks such as Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Enjoy
a sightseeing tour of the city. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 4 Interlaken – Jungfraujoch – Interlaken
Travel to the top of Europe! Jungfraujoch offers a year-round winter wonderland of snow and ice.
Disembark at the highest train station in Europe, at an elevation of 3.454 m. Built in 1912, the train
travels approx. 9 kilometers high up in the mountains, crossing a tunnel through Mount Eiger. Upon
arrival admire the breathtaking views of the Aletsch Glacier and the Bernese Oberland (Highland). There is the possibility to have lunch at the mountain top restaurant and then visit the ice palace with the beautiful sculptures. Overnight at Interlaken.
Day 5 Interlaken – Golden Pass Line – Montreux
We leave the Alpine landscape of the Bernese Oberland behind us and travel by Golden Pass line to
the Swiss Riviera. The city of Montreux in the French speaking canton is world renowned for its Belle Epoque buildings, mild climate and a summer jazz festival in beautiful lakefront setting on Lake Geneva. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along Montreux pleasant lakeside boulevard or visit by boat the nearby medieval castle, the Château de Chillon,
Day 6 Montreux – Zurich
The morning is free to spend at your leisure. Around noon return to Zurich by train. Say goodbye to this breathtaking country or check out the Rhine cruises from Basel.
