1st day: Corinth Canal – Epidaurus – Nafplio – Mycenae – Olympia
Depart Athens at 8:45 a.m. on the coastal road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the Theatre of Epidaurus, famous for its remarkable acoustics which you can test yourself. The site is in a serene and scenic spot where festivals are still held in the summer season. We will afterward proceed to the town of Nafplio, former capital of Greece for a short visit. Drive on to Mycenae, center of once mighty city state that for a long time influenced the culture and character of the ancient Greek world. See the famous Lion’s Gate and visit the Archaeological Site with the Tomb of Agamemnon, one of Mycenae’s ruler whose funerary golden mask is displayed at the Athens museum of archeology. Depart for Olympia through Central Peloponnese and the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis. Dinner and overnight in Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games.

2nd day: Olympia – Delphi
See the remains of the ancient town in the morning by visiting the Archaeological Site with the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium and the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. You will have the opportunity the compare the remaining visible sites to the former glory of the place in the local museum that displays a reconstructed small version of its buildings. Then drive on through the plains of Eliad and Achaia until reaching the magnificent bridge which crosses the Corinthian Bay from Rion to Antirion. Pass by the picturesque towns of Nafpaktos (Lepanto) and Itea, arrive in Delphi. Dinner and overnight in Delphi.

3rd day: Delphi
In the morning visit the Archaeological Site of the famous oracle and treasury and the Museum of Delphi. Delphi is situated at the foothills of the Mount Parnassus with fantastic views over mountain ranges and valleys. It was a sanctuary dedicated to the the sun god, Apollo. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at Delphi.

4th day: Delphi – Kalambaka – Meteora
Drive to Kalambaka past beautiful scenery and the towns of Amphissa, Lamia and Trikala. In the afternoon you will visit Meteora. The ageless Monasteries stand perched on top of huge natural rock pillars. Here you can see exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. There were no roads to the top of the 24 monasteries, monks were pulled up to the top in nets and baskets by ropes. Dinner and overnight in Kalambaka.

5th day: Kalambaka – Thessaloniki
This morning we drive via the towns of Trikala, Larissa, Dion in Macedonia and finally to Thessaloniki, the largest town in northern Greece. Visit the Byzantine past in some of the most characteristic churches of the period and the Museum of Byzantine Culture. In ancient Byzantine times it was the second most populous and prestigious city in all of the empire surpassed only by Constantinople. The afternoon is at your leisure to stroll around the lively seafront. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.

6th day: Thessaloniki – Pella – Vergina – Lefkadia – Veria – Thessaloniki
Depart in the morning for the Macedonian hinterland. First stop is Pella, capital of ancient Macedonia where Alexander the Great was born. Continue to Vergina (ancient Aigai) to visit the unique Museum, created inside the Great Tumulus (burial hill) covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. See the astonishing findings from the tomb of King Philip II, Alexander the Great’s father, and Alexander’s son. Continue to Lefkadia to visit the excavations at the ancient site of Aristotle’s school. Here he taught Alexander and his fellow students from 343/342 B.C. Return to Thessaloniki via Veria. (Dinner and overnight)

7th day: Thessaloniki – Tempi Valley – Larissa – Lamia – Thermopylae – Kamena – Vourla – Athens
Today we return to Athens. We will start driving south through the Tempi Valley, Larissa, Lamia and Thermopylae where you will see Leonidas’ Monument commemorating the huge victory over the Persians.
